The Story Behind the 2025 Calendar Cover Art, Judith Otey’s “Color My World”

We’ve reached out to Judy Otey, the artist behind the 2025 Art is Ageless Calendar cover art, to see what influences went into this beautiful quilt. Here’s what this years winner had to say.

“My mother taught me how to sew as a child and by late elementary / early high school I was making my own garments. I loved sewing. It was not until 1996 when I took my first quilt class that I was hooked on quilting! I have made over one hundred quilted projects, from small wall hangings/pillows/bags to medium to large quilts and a jacket. Charity projects are especially rewarding which has included many children’s quilts donated to hospitals as well as about ten Quilts of Valor quilts for wounded, retired or active service members, including one for my husband and my daughter’s father-in-law.”

“Color My World was a project of The Quilt Show as a 2021 block-of-the-month. I was intrigued by the different design elements in the quilt, the complexity of the paper-pieced houses and bright colors used. I chose to design four local Kansas City Landmarks for each of the four corners.”
